A few years ago we decided to build an ADU above our detached garage at our Bend home. This is a special getaway home for my wife and I, our two sons, their wives, and our five grand babies. We needed more space for our growing family, and when we reached out to a close friend in the building business, he referred us to Sara. First impressions are important to us, and when we met Sara for the first time, we had a good feeling about her. My wife said she has just a calmness about her, she is gentle in her suggestions, and reassuring in supporting our ideas when we were designing the ADU. Sara designed a beautiful ADU for us, meeting all of our needs and being there throughout the process to help with construction conflicts and adjustments. As a first time homeowner GC I felt confident that I had Sara in my corner on this project. Watching this project go from a design on paper to a beautiful home was magical, and Sara was responsible for making this family dream come true. She came to see the project when it was completed and her reaction, saying it made her feel happy was exactly what this home is to us, “our happy place.” We would absolutely recommend Sara design any project you have. We decided to move to Bend but could not find a nice small house on a reasonably sized lot, so we decided to take the plunge and build a home. We selected a local design-build firm to perform the design and construction, and met Sara through that company. She served as the project architect on our home, working with us to refine the company designer’s original design. Sara was wonderful to work with. All our meetings were memorialized in detail; requested design modifications never took more than one or two days; and Sara even computed sun path trajectories so that we knew that the gardens around the home would get the required light while the windows in our home would not be over illuminated so as to overheat the home interior. Design, however, is not the only important attribute in selecting an architect. Sara navigated our project through a very difficult Architecture and Landscape Review Committee (HOA) process, a procedure that we were completely unfamiliar with (if not horrified by). The permitting process with the city of Bend went without a hitch and in record time. Such tasks are somewhat opaque to the home owner but rest assured they are super-critical to any project’s success and timely execution. Sara decided to start her own company in the spring of 2020, meaning that our joint work on our project was ended before framing was complete. Sara’s easy manner, keen and creative eye, organized project management, and direct communication style are all attributes we really appreciated and respected. When our house is complete, Sara is sure to be amongst our very first guests!!

Sara is hardworking, thorough and completes projects on time. She has an excellent rapport with staff and consultants as well as clients and contractors. Her responsibilities on various projects [early in her career] have included programming assistance, preparation of construction documents, construction administration tasks, and LEED coordination. I find her smart, efficient, very organized and extremely dependable. I always request to work with Sara when given the option.

Sara was the lead designer for our new home when she was a design professional with another firm a few years ago. Along with creative design skill, she listens well and is very responsive. She took our disparate and unconnected ideas and incorporated them into an integrated, warm and comfortable home that exceeded our expectations. We had only two concerns when Sara presented the initial design concept to us, and Sara addressed both of those in creative ways that improved the home's use of natural light and its curb appeal. She did an excellent job of navigating the permitting and HOA architectural review process, and she worked seamlessly with our builder through the entire process. The result of her efforts and expertise is that our home won the 2016 award for "Best Residential Architecture" from the High Desert Design Council. We found Sara to be an absolute delight to work with.
